Thanks to dA's new JPG naming convention, we__ll_all_float_on_okay_by_fahrmboy.jpg for an example, artists can search for their user name on other websites and turn up any misuse of that image file.

On Flickr, file names are used to title photos by default, and if the ripper is too lazy to change them, you can find them easily. And wow, are there a lot of them:

flickr.com/photos/camiloruizx/…

www.flickr.com/photos/15452600…

www.flickr.com/photos/7755179@…

That's just small sample. Unfortunately, the abuse reporting process at Flickr is unnecessarily complicated. :/

Thanks for the tip, I found one of mine hosted there. There are probably more I haven't found yet. Grrrr.

Wow, DA made a change that actually benefited all artists. I'm mildly impressed at that, at least.

I still remember this girl on here who listed someone at Zazzle.com as stealing artworks. I gave a look since I'm selling on Zazzle and EVERYTHING in the accused person's store was stolen from DA. Nothing was their's. It was a travesty cause if they sold anything they were stealing from the legitimate artists. :P They got bombed by people here saying "you're a thief" and then I reported them to Zazzle and the store was offline within a week.

The thief had some high quality copies of other people's stuff in the store. Mostly why I don't put "downloads" checked on my images anymore when submitting. Not to say I've had anything stolen... insult as that is.

What amazes me is that some of these people don't even realize what they're doing is wrong. They're not claiming it as their own work, they're just compiling a collection of work that they like. It never occurs to them that they should at least ask permission, give credit, or that Flickr is the wrong forum for that sort of thing in the first place.

Of course, others believe they have a right to do what they're doing (they think internet = public property = fair use, or something) and others are downright attempting theft. Those people are truly upsetting.

A small part of me feels honored to have my stolen photos next to those belonging to famous master artists.

But a larger part of me is disappointed by this kind of thing.

I can undersatnd that.. It almost makes you feel violated.

You could possibly sue if they are making any monitary gains.

Urrgh. Awful.

How are you searching Flickr using this, though? I tried searching for "_by_username" and nothing turns up, even for users I saw stolen images of.

Make sure that you're searching through everyone's photos and not just that of a specific artist. I encounter that problem a lot.

Oh, and doing a search for 'username -inurl:deviantart' will get sites that have your name that are not deviantART if you get a lot of dA sites :bucktooth:

Nice. I also find it useful to use the google 'inurl:somethinghere' parameter. Might be nice to do an image search including your name. Not sure if google searches the flickr root image, but I've found a few images of mine of a few sites using 'inurl:electricjonny' :)
